Ham & Potato Chowder Recipe
Ingredients:
- 4 cups potatoes (peeled & diced)
- 1 ½ cups cooked ham (diced)
- 1 small onion (chopped)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 3 tbsp butter
- 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 4 cups chicken broth (or vegetable broth)
- 2 cups milk (whole or 2%)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- ½ cup heavy cream (optional, for extra creaminess)
- Salt & black pepper (to taste)
- ½ tsp paprika (optional)
- ½ tsp dried thyme (optional)
- Fresh parsley or chives (for garnish)
Instructions:
- Cook the potatoes
- In a large pot, bring the chicken broth to a boil.
- Add the diced potatoes and cook until tender (about 10–12 minutes).
- Make the base
- In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
- Add onions and garlic, sauté until soft.
- Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute (this forms a roux).
- Combine
- Slowly whisk in milk until smooth and slightly thickened.
- Add this mixture into the pot with the potatoes.
- Add ham & flavor
- Stir in ham, cheese, cream, paprika, thyme, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer for 5–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thick and creamy.
- Serve
- Ladle into bowls, garnish with parsley or chives, and enjoy warm with crusty bread! 🥖✨
