Beef Stir-Fry with Vegetables

Ingredients:

  • 500 g (1 lb) beef sirloin or flank steak (thinly sliced against the grain)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce (optional, for sweetness)
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil (or vegetable oil)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger (grated)
  • 1 onion (sliced)
  • 1 red bell pepper (sliced)
  • 1 green bell pepper (sliced)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch + 3 tbsp water (slurry, to thicken sauce)
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • Green onions (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Beef:
    • In a bowl, mix beef slices with 1 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tsp cornstarch, and a drizzle of oil. Let sit for 15–20 minutes.
  2. Cook the Beef:
    • Heat a wok or skillet on high heat with 1 tbsp sesame oil.
    • Stir-fry beef quickly (2–3 minutes) until browned but not fully cooked. Remove and set aside.
  3. Cook the Veggies:
    • In the same pan, add another tbsp oil. Sauté garlic, ginger, onion, and bell peppers for 2–3 minutes.
  4. Make the Sauce:
    • Add remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce (if using), and a splash of water. Stir well.
  5. Combine Everything:
    • Return beef to the pan, toss everything together.
    • Add cornstarch slurry to thicken the sauce. Cook for another 2 minutes.
  6. Serve:
    • Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions.
    • Serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.
