🍎 Apple Pie Bars Recipe
Ingredients:
For the crust:
- 2 refrigerated pie crusts (or homemade if you prefer)
- 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
For the filling:
- 5–6 medium apples (peeled, cored, sliced thin)
- ½ cup sugar
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour (to thicken)
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg (optional)
- 1 tsp lemon juice
For the glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1–2 tbsp milk
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Prepare the apples
- In a bowl, toss apple slices with sugars, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Set aside.
- Assemble the pie
- Roll out one pie crust and place it in a greased baking dish (9×13 works well).
- Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crust.
- Roll out the second crust and place it on top. Pinch the edges to seal.
- Bake
- Brush the top with beaten egg for that golden color.
- Cut a few small slits for steam to escape.
- Bake at 190°C / 375°F for 40–45 minutes, until golden brown and bubbly.
- Glaze & Serve
- Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla into a smooth icing.
- Drizzle over cooled pie bars before slicing.
